Lightning Protection Installation at a Business Centre
Horizon was appointed to design and install a new lightning protection system at a multi-building business centre to improve resilience and ensure compliance with current British Standards. The project required careful planning and coordination due to the occupied nature of the site, with works undertaken while maintaining safe access for tenants, visitors, and site personnel.
Using a combination of powered access equipment, ladder access, and temporary roof-level restraint systems, our engineers installed a new air termination network across the roof structures. The system incorporated an extensive conductor mesh arrangement designed to provide effective lightning interception and protection for the building its occupants and contents. New down conductors were strategically positioned around the external elevations along with a full earth termination network. Multiple new earth electrodes were installed around the perimeter of the business centre to provide a low-resistance path to ground.
Prior to excavation, comprehensive underground service detection surveys were completed to ensure all installation works could be carried out safely and without disruption to existing infrastructure.
Following completion of the installation, the entire system was subjected to electrical continuity and earth resistance testing in accordance with BS EN 62305. All readings were recorded and certified, providing the client with a fully compliant lightning protection system and documented evidence of performance. The works were completed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations across the business centre.
